We raise hunting dogs and place them as puppies into happy hunting homes. Our requirements are that they go to persons who are hunters and hunt regularly during hunting seasons.
We encourage everyone to test, as preparing for a test will give you a schedule to stick to in your training to ensure your pup will be ready come hunting season. The German testing system is based on what your pup should know and by when. If you prepare for the test, your pup and you will be prepared for hunting season. It will make you and your pup a team! Training Days are offered through out the USA and give you and your pup lots of exposure to game and other like minded people with dogs. It is a fun way to spend your summer! You will make friends to treasurer for a lifetime!
The first 16 weeks of a puppies life is the socialization period. We will take care of our part of socialization the first 8, but the next 8 is on YOU! If you take your puppy on outings and meet people and other dogs your puppy will be well adjusted to life! These dogs love to socialize!
We feed our puppies Pro Plan Focus, Large Breed Puppy. Puppies will need to remain on this until they are an adult, recommended age of 16-18 months.
We do genetics testing when puppies are 2-3 days old. Follow the NEO-GEN Link here to learn more. Results will be furnished to all who purchase a puppy from us.
When our puppies are born, I am normally in the whelping box with Momma the entire time she is whelping. They are born in our house and remain there until they are 2-3 weeks of age. At that point they are moved to our "puppy palace" where they have more room and the floor is elevated. Jack and I spend many hours, morning and night, with our puppies in the whelping box/puppy palace. It's important for each and every puppy to be handled and nurtured not only by Momma but by humans as well. Our puppies normally start on outings around 3.5 weeks of age (depending on weather) and spend as much time in the great outdoors as possible. We live in the country and they have lots of room to roam. They also receive lots of attention from our other dogs. By the time they leave us at 8 weeks of age, they are VERY familiar with hot dog treats! This is what I use as reward for "kenneling" after their outings. They receive their tattoos and chips at 6 weeks normally.
Puppies are wormed weekly from 2 weeks of age until they leave us. They receive their first puppy shot at 6 weeks of age and will need their second shot at 9 weeks of age. We require a visit to the vet the week following pick up which keeps puppies on track for their 9 week shot.
During the first 8 weeks, I group text our puppy persons with updates almost daily. I also do Facebook Live to share the joy!
If you want to know more about us and our dogs, stalk us on Facebook here. I highly encourage you to join our group page on Facebook. We have a group instead of a page so that our dog family can feel free to post their pictures and updates freely. You can access the group Higher Ground Drahthaars by clicking here. We now require you answer a couple questions for membership to ensure the membership is real and not scammers.
